Wikipedia’s Database Schema

The database schema for Wikipedia looks complex at first, but if you’ve ever had to deal with designing databases you’ll be able to appreciate its simplicity. I really wish more sites would release stuff like this — I’d love to see the database schema for Google Search!

  1. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that, considering the custom db engine they use (BigTable, though HyperTable claims to be an open-source implementation thereof), it’s likely almost a model of simplicity.

  2. HyperTable looks really cool. I had heard about it in the past, but it looks like its come a long way since then.

BTW, any idea why HyperTable in Wikipedia redirects to the C++ page?

  3. No clue, aside from the fact that Hypertable is implemented in C++ (if memory serves). Still seems that it’s kinda silly to redirect from the one to the other, despite the fact that it’s freakin’ hilarious.
