Imagine a city where every resident was someone who had changed the world in a big way — Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Alexander the Great, Mother Theresa, The Wright Brothers, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, and any other famous person who has ever changed the course of history.

Now imagine you’re strolling around that city and watching all those great people walk around, except that none of them know who they are; none of them realize the impact they’re going to have on the future of the planet.

Right now this world is full of people like that. People who are powerhouses of potential. People with an incredible capacity for greatness but who walk around seemingly unaware of that fact, unaware that they have the power to become passionate leaders, creative innovators, magical healers, and moving motivators.

Introducing a New Collaborative Project: Small Ways to Make a Big Difference

Exactly three weeks ago, I started working on a collaborative project that had no name. I sent out dozens of emails requesting participation and quickly realized that I needed some way of organizing the emails so they wouldn’t get lost. So, I created a tag in Gmail for this project and I named it with the first thing that came to mind: “Change the World”.

Every time someone replied to an email for the project, the “Change the World” tag in my Gmail account lit up and it put a smile on my face.

Every time I got an contribution, it reminded me why I was doing this project. It reminded me that there are so many people all over the globe who genuinely care about this world and who have ideas for how to make it a better place.

In just three weeks, over 40 bloggers contributed more than 100 ways to live more sustainable, to live happier and healthier, to get more out of life, to inspire and share, to reconnect with our true selves, to be a leader, to exist more intelligently.

It’s time to care (in the real world)

This is a guest post by my buddy and good friend, Ali Dark. Ali lives in Brisbane, Australia and I’m currently in Kathmandu, Nepal.

We spent about an hour and a half on Skype bouncing ideas off each other and discussing ways that we could help make the world a better place. This is a great example of why I think technology gives us the perfect opportunity to start bringing the world together — two people who never met each other, separated by thousands of miles, brainstorming ideas to help improve humanity.

Ali and myself are both going through life changes that involve a strong dissatisfaction with “normal” and an even stronger desire to do something that ensures we leave behind a world better than we found it. This blog post was born from our discussion and I think it includes some important ideas for bloggers and non-bloggers alike.

Making a difference starts with taking a stand. It starts with planting our feet on the ground, openly showing that we care, and being willing to discuss and brainstorm solutions to real problems… problems that are determining right now the future we leave behind for our children. The First Step to Making a Difference

Do you want to stand out and make a difference in the world? Are you tired of feeling less successful than those around you? Do you want to be somebody?

If so, the first thing you’ll need to do is stop being like everybody else and start focusing on what makes you, you. If you try to be like everybody, you’ll end up being nobody.

We are all unique; each and every one of us has a history that is uniquely different from everyone else. None of us have the exact same past. The combination of things you’ve experienced, people you’ve met, choices you’ve made, and tough situations you’ve been through are one hundred percent unique to you.

Your history — your past experiences, successes, and mistakes — make you uniquely capable of handling specific situations and solving specific problems in the world. You are so unique in fact, that the only path in life for you to take is your path. Continue reading →
