Sometimes I get so focused on what I am trying to say and the motivations behind why I am trying to say that I miss the moment. The universe is clearly far wiser than I because it doesn’t make a wasted effort or sound. Silence shared between two people who understand each other deeply is a beautiful experience. Words merely distract us from the moment.
Wonderful quote. I was thinking something very similar earlier as I was on the beach listening to the sea. I didn’t say anything and all the sea did was continue to push waves onto the beach and I came away feeling like I’d had hours of therapy 🙂
Colleen, nature works wonders in silence! Whenever I’m feeling stressed or on edge, a simple and quiet walk outside, among trees or along the water, instantaneously calms me and helps me reconnect with the steady, invigorating power of nature. 🙂
As you can see by the URL of my WordPress blog, I think silence can be exhilarating :).
Another blog is http://dog-blessed-silverwalk.org. Hounds don’t always believe in silence :). Best of both worlds.
when you say nothing ..especially when you want to .. it is like being filled with a heavenly cup of good energy ..so many things come to you ..when you observe and are silently listening
In fasting from words, from speaking, I begin to discover the meaning behind the words, “Be still, and know that I am..” When we attempt to fill the spaces with “noise,” with our own voice, we do not know the experience of what this means. We do not experience the Divine Presence within. There is Truth in Silence, that we don’t always feel comfortable with. It is good to make friendly relations with Silence.
I love that! 🙂 I finished a 7-day water fast a few weeks ago and now that I think about it, the positive affects I experienced by restricting food intake correlate with what I experience by being silent.
Hi Raam,
Lovely quote!

Thank you for sharing this lovely quote! 🙂
Irving the Vizier
Irving, I can absolutely relate to sharing silence with someone who understands it (a fairly recent experience, but life-changing to say the least).
The universe contains the energy and wisdom of all time… if we can tap into that, imagine what wonders await us! 🙂

Silence can indeed be exhilarating, as non-intuitive as that may sound. 🙂

Staying quiet when you want to speak is the most difficult, but so much comes from it. 🙂
