An Oceanic Day and the Damn Sunburn

Sitha and I went to the beach today and we were actually able to find a place that wasn't too packed.

I was stubborn and didn't put sunblock on.

Stupid.

Now I have a bad sunburn. Lesson learned, I hope.

The ocean is so beautiful. I was thinking how nice it would be if I could find a place to rent for three months of the year (June, July, August). I'd go to work during the week and return everyday to the beach house. Since I don't have the expense of a permanent residence (a whole house to myself), I may actually be able to make that work. I was also thinking about the plausibility of either renting a place, or buying a multi-family house, in Cambridge so I don't have to commute to Aerva. I'm sure I'll be working there full-time within the next couple of months, so I'll be commuting a lot more.

I started a new workout routine this week. It's a 4 week routine designed to cut fat and maintain muscle. Hopefully by August 1st, I'll be around 8% or 9% body fat and looking cut. For this routine, I lift three days a week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On the days in-between, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, I will be doing 15 - 20 minutes of interval training.

Because today is apart of a holiday weekend, I almost forgot it was Monday. I really wasn't in the mood to workout because of my sunburn. But then I realized: We don't take a day off from breathing, the Sun doesn't have a holiday in which it doesn't have to rise, and I don't decide to not workout simply because it's a holiday or because I have a damn sunburn!

So I worked out. One hour. Here's today's routine:

  1. Hmm, there shouldn’t be any good reason for me to not take up the mentality that you have about laying back. Yet, the last time I’ve done my exercises was the Monday of last week. With bootcamp less than a month and half away, I shouldn’t afford anymore “break” days from training.

That’s a real workout you have there! I’m trying to improve my running times and still work on my body weight exercises, so I have a curcuit-type training in mind. It’s also an attempt to simulate the non-stop exercises in Marine bootcamp:

It takes 19 laps around the area in the YMCA to complete a mile. I plan to run enough laps to complete 50 sets of different exercises in between each lap, which should be of course 50 laps, 2.6 miles. Hopefully, there’d be no rest between each lap and set, and I would rest maybe 1 minute every 10-15 laps.

The sets of exercises I’m thinking about doing between each lap are either:
10 rep mountain climbers for 100 reps
    10 rep back extensions(maybe 10 pnds) for 100 reps
    10 rep side bends(35pnds) for 100 reps
10 rep leg raises for 100 reps
10 rep inclined crunches for 50 reps
or 10 rep pullups for 50 reps

It might be too depleting to do this curcuit run for 5-6 days a week, but I think it’s better to aim high and possibly miss than to aim low and hit the target when it comes to working out. I’d probably do this for 1 or 2 weeks. I’d like to try running in my cargo and boots with 60 pounds on my back sometime! But hey, tell me what you think about the curcuit!

And hey, I think I’m going to run out my supplements and not buy anymore, maybe other than BSN NO-Explode for my creatine and weight gainer.

Anyways, keep on working out and keep on doing a good job. You’re an inspiration and a good guide! Peace out.

  2. That circuit does sound pretty intense, however I totally agree that you should aim high. However, with regards to workouts, when falling short of your goal it’s extremely important not to give up entirely. If you find you can only complete that half of the circuit 1 week from now, at least continue with whatever you can complete. Don’t give up, or severely cut, your routine just because you missed your goal.

Thats the biggest pitfall with workouts, and the sole reason behind the statistic that shows 80% of people who sign up for a gym membership stop using it by the 3rd month (and how the gym’s that force you into a 1 year contract make so much money). When people don’t see results right away, they feel what they are doing is useless. The same way, when you miss your goals its very easy to feel as though you failed and that there’s no reason to keep going.

Keep going. Consistency is the key!
