First day on the job

Well, today went great. I learned a ton of stuff about AerChannel, the product Aerva sells and which I will be supporting. It was exciting to learn how everything works and to see the user administrative interfaces up close.

I nearly missed the train this morning. I couldn't find a parking spot anywhere, and I finally squeezed into a really small spot, leaving a few inches of room on either side. On the way back, I exited the wrong end of the North Station subway exit and had to walk around the block to get to the train. I got there at 4:41 and the 4:40 train had already started leaving. So I grabbed a coffee and caught the 5:10 train instead.

On the train home, which was very packed for the first 20 minutes, I used my laptop and read up about the rsync Linux utility. I decided to use it to create a backup of my entire /home/raam directory on my 2GB USB thumb drive. I created a script to sync everything to the thumb drive, and then delete the ~/downloads directory. The ~/downloads directory usually grows pretty big, and I really don't think it's necessary to keep that backed up. Any downloaded files I want to backup, I simply move to the ~/files directory.

Speaking about Linux bash scripts, I think I'll create a section on this site for those.

  1. Your start of the day sounds like a “life of djt……….” moment.

Hope the rest of the week went well.

Speaking of adding to your blog… I really really need to start mine. 🙁
