This Friday will mark my 5th month working at Aerva. It's amazing that much time has already passed. I feel that I've adjusted and settled into my new job nicely, making some great friends along the way. The programming project I started, and have been working on, is by far my biggest project to date. I'm learning a ton of new things along the way and the prospects for this company are exciting. I'm not learning as much Linux related technology as I'd hoped for, but the programming experience makes up for that.
Today I was given a good size raise and promoted from Junior Engineer to the Software Engineer / Support Services Manager position, woohoo! I'm going to become a lot more involved in the support side of things at Aerva, which will of course require extensive knowledge of the software and hardware aspects of Aerva's product, AerChannel. I feel as if I've been "on call" for tech support issues my whole life, so adjusting to this role should be a breeze. The technical side of things will require time and effort, but I'm sure it will be a learning experience.
I'm still on my 20 hour limit, but hopefully by the end of this year, or early next year, I'll be working at Aerva full-time. I still haven't decided whether renting an apartment or buying a house is the better choice for moving to Cambridge. I suppose if I can find a place that's cheap enough, renting makes more sense; it would remove all the time and responsibility that comes with owning a house. I already own three houses, and I know first hand, its no walk in the park.
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!
So what does a raise feel like? I haven’t seen one of those in such a loooooooooooooong time. Send some of those vibes my way would ya?
*Points good-vibe-ray-gun towards the West*
A raise feels great, but I was already being paid way under industry standard, so the raise was kinda expected. Never the less, its awesome to see my hard work paying off. 🙂
My employers still think it’s 1946 when they opened. 🙁
I need to get out of the shell and go looking and stop getting that guilty feeling everytime I think I want to leave (I’ve known the owner since 1976).
Just browsed Aevra’s website – the products look interesting.
sorry for the dbl post
Double posts are no problem. 🙂
You should never feel guilty about someone else not paying YOU enough to do work for THEM. If you feel you’re not being paid enough money, make it known. And if they don’t care and you know your position would be hard for them to replace, then quit. Let them call YOU back, and then you can demand the amount you want.
